Saffron is a spice used for cooking mainly. We harvest it in October and prepare it for selling it. People usually pick up the flowers in the morning; in the afternoon we take out the stigma and part of the style and then we dry it. This way the saffron spice is ready for sale
Adria´n y Javier nos resumen todo lo que incluye la fiesta/ Adrián and Javier are presenting us what we can enjoy in the festival. Tenemos diferentes competiciones deportivas, tradicionales como son la petanca y los tejos. Por otro lado, equipos locales de baloncesto y fútbol también tienen sus competiciones./Different sports competitions, traditional ones such as “petanca” , a kind of boules, or “tejos”. Local teams also play basketball or football. Hay exhibiciones culturales, de cuadros, fotografía…/There are cultural exhibitions (pictures, photographs…) Hay una feria agrícola con tractores ymaquinaria agrícola y unos expositores con productos artesanales y alimenticios donde se puede comprar azafrán, vino, queso , aceite, jabones… Concursos de “monda de rosa” para saber quién es el más rápido mondando la rosa. There is an agricultural fair with tractors and other machines and handcraft and agricultural products exhibit where you can buy saffron, wine, cheese, olive oil, soaps… Contests to know who is the fastest person to peel the Rose of Saffron (open the rose and extract the stigma and part of the style to prepare the saffron spice later). Hay un concurso culinario en el que la gente del pueblo prepara sus recetas basadas en azafrán y también bailes regionales como podréis ver en la siguiente publicación./ There is a culinary competition or cooking contest where local people prepare their traditional recipes with saffron and folkloric dances as you can see in the next post.
Dani and Rodrigo making their presentation/ Dani y Rodrigo hacen su presentación. El viernes las autoridades locales lanzan dulces desde el ayuntamiento y el chupinazo marca el comienzo de la fiesta./On Friday the local authorities throw sweets from the town hall and when fireworks blow up (el chupinazo) the festival starts. El Sábado tiene lugar el concurso culinario. La gente se viste con ropa tradicional y comienzan a preparar sus platos tradicionales./ On Saturday, the cooking contest takes place. People get dressed with the traditional clothes and start preparing the traditional dishes using the saffron. El sábado por la tarde se muele trigo en el molino Sancho. Es muy típico y la dulcinea y las autoridades locales están también presentes. Hay música y bailes regionales. Este acto es muy concurrido sobre todo por turistas./ On Saturday afternoon we mill the wheat in the windmill “Sancho”. It’s very typical and the Dulcinea and the local authorities are there. There are regional dances and music. This event is really crowded with tourists. El domingo, grupos de diferentes regiones del país y el grupo local hacen bailes regionales.
Estos días Consuegra se llena de vida, colorido y tradición. On Sunday, groups from different parts of the country and the local group dance their regional dances too. These days the village of Consuegra becomes a lively, colourful and also traditional place. |
